Feature Friday: Piera Scuri

Our guest for this week’s Feature Friday interview is one of many talents, including; architect, published author, company co-founder, and more recently core team member for Women In Office Design’s newest international chapter, WOD Italy!

Here is our conversation with Piera Scuri, Architect & Co-founder at Spazio…

WOD: Could you start by explaining your current role…

PS: “I’m following the multiple activities required by a specialised and small architectural firm. Coronavirus obliged us to seriously reorganise ourselves: architects collaborating with us are working from home and we’re virtually meeting with our clients.”

– Control Building, Al Hosn, UAE

WOD: What attracted to the workplace sector and why?

PS: “After University I’ve started to work with KPF an architectural office in New York as architectural critic to write a book about skyscrapers. I then discovered that Skyscrapers are usually Headquarters of Corporations, which means offices. In the 80s/90s there were very interesting research regarding how to design work spaces to improve efficiency and alertness. I’m especially referring to the research done by Nasa and Glavcosmos in the field of extreme work environments. I’ve published books and articles about this research. An Italian Corporation called me to help them to design their workspaces. I then became also an architect specialised in workspaces.”

WOD: What key issues are relevant to your client base at the moment?

PS: “How to design work spaces taking into account new technologies such as AI and Big Data and IOT. How to design office furniture able to cope with new activities, remotely and for extended time shifts, day and night.”
