Sustainable Design Collective

A ‘think tank’ group committed to acting as a collective within the workplace design community to identify developments and ‘best practice’ relating to sustainability.
An early leader in the industry, the Sustainable Design Collective is an initiative by WOD.
The Collective’s mission is to connect, inspire and engage. It is recognised that the quest for greater environmental responsibility and sustainability is a huge challenge. Collaboration is essential to accelerate the pace of change.
Sustainability is ultimately about balancing three key factors – the environment; society; and the economy. Each themed topic will be addressed through the lens of three distinct aspects: Products, Places, People. There is so much ‘green wash’. Some companies seek to hide behind marketing words – we must ‘call this out’ and highlight the importance of environmental responsibility.

Academy

The Sustainable Design Academy – hosted by the SDC – offers a learning and skills development platform focussed on the environmental and social impact of the design and architecture industry.
Sustainability within the built environment is evolving rapidly, posing challenges in keeping up with current trends and emerging needs. The Sustainable Design Academy aims to serve as a resource for understanding the holistic essence of sustainability and staying informed and educated on this evolving landscape. Learning sessions in the academy are structured around seven focus areas to provide a comprehensive view of sustainability.

Forum & Awards

Unlike larger exhibitions, the SDC Forum incorporates a unique format of presentations, workshops and panel discussions and is intended specifically for architects and designers. Hosted on a smaller scale to facilitate genuine interaction, the forum provides the opportunity for networking and purposeful conversations about our industry’s efforts towards sustainability.
The event has been deliberately formatted to create the environment for open discussion – expectations and requirements from designers and practical difficulties by suppliers. It’s only through mutual understanding can the industry work collaboratively to drive forward to create more sustainable office spaces.

Magazine

The Sustainable Design Magazine is designed share knowledge and inspire change. It aims to provide a platform to provoke thought and curiosity. Through learning and understanding, the SDM hopes to fuel creativity and make a positive contribution to the wellbeing of people and the planet.
Editorial direction ensures the inclusion of ‘best practice’ projects, materials and products as well as opinion pieces from SDC members and the wider workplace design community. The SDM welcome contributions from all!
